What are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

Before and after teeth with fillings

Tooth-colored fillings are custom restorations that are used to repair cavity-stricken teeth so that they can be used to eat and speak normally as well as maintain an aesthetically beautiful appearance. Our team uses composite resin, which is not only void of any metal but is also flexible, making it a safer and more smile-friendly restorative option for patients in need.

The Process of Getting a Tooth-Colored Filling

Dr. Ulloa will begin by administering local anesthesia. This will numb the tooth and its surrounding area so that you do not feel any discomfort while receiving your filling.

He will then use specialized dental instruments to carefully clear out the decayed portions of the tooth, making sure no bacteria and plaque remain behind. After flushing out the tooth and checking for any remnants, he will use the composite resin material and fill the space. After smoothing out the portion along the top, he will use a curing light to harden the resin. This will create a tight seal so that no additional plaque and tartar can affect the interior of the tooth.

Dr. Ulloa will check your bite to make sure everything looks correct and feels comfortable before clearing you to leave. The process only requires one visit to our office.

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings offer amazing benefits to patients of all ages. Choosing this type of restoration is one decision you will not regret, especially since:

  • There is no metal included, so you can expect a filling that is better for your smile and overall health.
  • The composite resin can be shaded to match the rest of your natural smile, so everything appears the same in color.
  • The material is flexible, so it will not require as much of your tooth structure to be removed upon placement – a vast difference when compared to metal fillings.
  • Composite resin does not expand like metal, so your tooth will not suffer additional breakage over time when exposed to extreme temperatures.
  • You will enjoy knowing your dental work is unnoticeable to anyone other than you and your dentist.
